Eating in the AreaDunsmuir, being a kind of 'Brigadoon' of Northern California - a hidden, magical town - is host to many interesting and accomplished people from other parts of California who discovered Dunsmuir and decided to stay there.
It is therefore a small town with surprisingly good facilities for eating, drinking and the buying of unusual things. The Dogwood Diner (also known as the 'Brown Trout') is a truly charming coffee house and restaurant (and it is 50 yards from the Old Mortuary Inn). McGuire's Restaurant is also highly rated by its clientele, as is Sengthong's Thai Restaurant. Over in Mount Shasta City, there is Lily's, the Trinity Café, Casa Ramos Mexican Restaurant, the Tree House Restaurant, Billy Goat's Tavern, Vivify Organic Japanese Restaurant, and Mike and Tony's Italian Restaurant. |
'The Mortician's Wife''The Mortician's Wife' by Maralee Lowder is a fiction based in the Old Mortuary Inn that tells the story of the relationship of a young girl with the owner of the Old Mortuary House whose husband was responsible for two murders to become, after his death, an evil spirit inhabiting the house.
The story builds on the reputation of the Old Mortuary Inn as being a haunted house with frantic scratches down a door, inexplicable bangs and crashes in the main house, showers that turn themselves on and off without human intervention and a ghost child who was delivered to the house 'wanting to return home'. The sequel, 'The Mortician's Revenge', will be published in February 2013. See the trailer to 'The Mortician's Wife' - here. |
